Info

Skill to Enterprise Model (STEM) is a joint Initiative of CIED IUST Foundation and SIDBI where 30 participants with a business idea and skill were selected through a rigorous selection procedure for a 6 month Diploma course. CIED-IUST Foundation supports and nurtures entrepreneurs by providing quality mentorship, incubation, and handholding. The Diploma in “STEM (Skill to Enterprise Model)” program for Youth in J&K is an initiative by the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and innovation among the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. STEM in this context stands for the integration of skill training with entrepreneurial development, turning skill-acquired individuals into successful entrepreneurs. The program recognizes the critical need for bridging the gap between acquired skills and their application in creating business ventures.

The STEM program at IUST is structured to provide comprehensive training through both academic and practical experiences. The course includes:

Academic Training: A minimum of 300 hours of classroom teaching spread over five modules, covering topics from understanding the business environment to managing human resources and finances. Out of the 300 hours, 225 hours shall be delivered by industry professionals, and 75 hours by university faculty.

Industrial Exposure: At least 100 hours of practical industrial exposure where participants visit various industrial estates and learn firsthand from established businesses. This practical orientation helps in understanding real-world business challenges and solutions.

Mentorship Program: A one-year mentorship program post-diploma where participants receive continuous support from industry professionals, government officials, and experienced entrepreneurs. This phase includes guidance in business registration, preparing Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), and securing funding.

Exposure Visits: Visits to industrial houses and estates to gain insights from experienced entrepreneurs and understand the operational aspects of various industries.

Pilot Batch and Scaling: The program starts with a pilot batch of 30 participants, with plans to scale based on the success and maturity of the processes.

Overall, the Diploma in STEM program by IUST is a comprehensive initiative designed to empower the youth of Jammu and Kashmir with the necessary skills, knowledge, and support to become successful entrepreneurs, driving economic and social development in the region.
