IUST established the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development (CIED) as a Section-8 Company (CIED-IUST FOUNDATION), with a vision to promote innovation and entrepreneurship among the youth in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir. Supporting innovation and entrepreneurship is imperative for developing and improving the country’s economy. Successful entrepreneurship development leads to sustainable business development, social change, and community development.

The whole purpose of entrepreneurship development is to increase the number of viable start-ups and thereby make the country as well as the UT of J&K more export-oriented. Entrepreneurship is always supported by innovative ideas which nurture novel concepts and transform them into products, processes, and services for commercial exploitation, thereby making society more self-reliant. The core philosophy of CIED is based on “DISHI,” representing values for Diversity, Integrity, Sustainability, Humanity, and Inclusiveness in order to change the mindset of youth towards innovation and entrepreneurship.

The Centre has developed an enabling and supportive ecosystem for innovation and entrepreneurship by integrating all the departments of the university into an innovative framework. For the youth of J&K, the Centre specifically encourages budding entrepreneurs by infusing critical, lateral, and design thinking, nurturing their ambitions, and enabling new ventures through convenient and impactful learning experiences.

Islamic University of Science and Technology, Awantipora has been awarded a prestigious 4-star rating by the Institutions Innovation Council (IIC), Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India (2023). Additionally, IUST has also been awarded an impressive 8th rank in the band performer in Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovations Achievements-ARIIA (2022). Moreover, our startups have been recognized and appreciated at both regional and national levels for their contributions and innovations.
